Our Mission:
The library furthers Olin College's mission by selecting, developing, deploying, and managing resources and services that foster learning, discovery, and innovation. We strive to embody Olin's philosophy of continual improvement by leveraging emerging technologies & practices to serve Olin and the broader learning community.
Information Resources:
To achieve our mission the library makes
a wide variety of information resources available to students, faculty
and staff. Olin licenses many electronic resources and makes them available
in the library, elsewhere on campus, and anywhere that members of the
community may be working. At this point in time, it's important for
the Olin library to provide both virtual and physical collections. At
the Olin Library facility in the Olin Center, a browsing collection
of current journals, an in-depth reference collection, and a small,
targeted collection of printed books will support the work of the Olin
community.
Cooperative Arrangements:
As members of the WebNet Consortium,
Olin students may borrow books from Babson, Pine Manor, and Regis
Colleges and, through other special arrangements, from Brandeis University and Wellesley College.
The library also participates in the MetroWest regional network
and is a full member of Nelinet. The Olin library staff can also provide the books and materials that you
need via inter-library loan (ILL) from other academic/research libraries worldwide.
Research Assistance:
Olin Library staff are available to assist
students, faculty and staff with information seeking strategies, and
with using, evaluating and analyzing information. Assistance is available
in person at the library and via email and telephone.
Information Literacy:
An understanding of information issues,
policies, and the ability to use information resources effectively are
key to successful lifelong learning and a responsible life as a professional
and a community member. Competency in these areas is an integral part
of the Olin curriculum. Library staff regularly work with Olin students
in the classroom to help them achieve competency in these areas. For
a more complete description see our Information
Literacy plan and documents relating to Competencies at Olin.
